Tracing the Ancient Storys
by Jiao Honghui
taken in Liancheng Town in 1992

As the Lantern Festival coming, people in Liancheng will celebrate by going around the town in a parade. It is said the custom was pratised for against the flood and drought in ancient times.

Two brave boys will be selected to dress up as the traditional opera and bound on the "head stage" which weights about 200KG and is carried by 20 men. Before the formal parade, the strong carriers should warm up on the mountain for two days, and then keep a fast for three days.

At 2pm on the festival day, the team will rush into the river and run as quickly as possible. Except the head stage must keep the first place, others can overrun each other for catching lucky and happy until the destination.
