Daur is a north minority with long history of agriculture. The population is about 120,000.
In ancient times, Daur learnt some local language, skill and culture from the neighboring nationalities because they live separately around north and west China. Now they live in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Heilongjiang Province and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

A Daur yard is fenced with red wickers, and the cowshed is built far from the yard in order to keep clean and tidy.

They think uncle from mother side is the closest relative. In Daur's mind, courtesy is necessary everywhere. For example, both man and woman bring cigarette during going out to treat someone they may meet.

Just like most of Chinese do, Daur people celebrate the Spring Festival by the means of sacrificing ancestor, playing firecracker, visiting relatives, preparing special food, sending gifts and etc. Until the sixteenth day of the Spring Festival, everyone paint his/her face to black and without black means bad lucky.

Daur believe the Shamanism, Mother Nature is worshiped too. People hold religious rites to pray happiness or harvest, to cure illness, to sacrifice the heaven with bull, sheep, pig and chicken.
Divorce is the worst thing. A folk adage says "No grass will grow up at the ground which signing the divorce contract in three years". If the husband insists on ending the marriage, a formal ceremony has to be held by the wife's side. She will stride over her husband while he bending on the ground. Then the man's kitchen range and chimney will be wrapped with the white cloth, symbolizing the disabled husband. So the marriage is regarded as "over".

They are proud of the colorful folk culture and art. They praise the hero with song, poem and story. Mukulian, a traditional musical instrument with brittle structure is played by woman of Daur. Girls express their love by playing Mukulian. They also are good at embroidering.
An interesting sport must be mentioned because its way seems like the modern hockey. In 1976, the first professional hockey team of Daur was set up and its success is splendid. Yin Yufeng, the international judge and Ha Sen, the coach and judge, are born here.
