Han nationality is the principal part in China. It originated early five thousand years. In its long history, it melted other minority nationalities. The Hans' was in dominant status in economy, culture and politics. The costumes have been changed greatly, now their clothes are inclining to multi-styles.

Concept of a family was similar to the country in old days. Father was the controlling center in the long history. A wife and all the children must obey him, but now the system of which has been changed greatly. The members of a family are of in equal status. The father will do housework with his wife and children; they live a more happy life than ever before. Monogamy is the only system for a marriage. Now fire burial is advocated and carried on. They take good convention of supporting the elders and care for the young children.

Cooking arts are very important, the ways and tastes are very colorful and rich. Rice and flour are the main staple-food. Vegetables, meat, fishes, eggs are very popular food. Three times of having meals are conventional.

Spring Festival is the biggest festival among the Hans' people. The Sweeping-tomb Day, Dragon Boat Day and Mid-autumn are also important days.

Religions take important roles in the long history, but there is not a certain religion for the whole nation to be believed. The Hans' people are tolerant to all kinds of religions; Buddha, Manichean's, Zoroastrianism, and Catholicism have been accepted. Taoism originated in Han Dynasty, but is not accepted by anyone.

Poem takes important role in the history. Songs of Chu originated in the Warring States Period, the representative poet is Qu Yuan, the patriotic poet (340 B.C-278 B.C), when he was dead, the people created Dragon Boat Festival to remember him. Li Bai (701-762), Du Fu (712-770), Su Shi (1037-1101), Lu You (1125-1210), Xin Qiji (1140-1207) and others were all famous poets in ancient China, the works of whose are still popular nowadays.

Fiction creation was developed in Ming and Qing Dynasty. The Three Kingdom, Journey to the West, the Story by Water Margin, Unofficial Record of Academic Circles and Strange Stories from the Talking Studio are bearing great names.

There are many famous artists in drawing, calligraphy, industrial arts, music, dance, drama, and other folk arts.

Cyclopedias are Dictionary Wordbook of Yong Le, Integration of Books, and others. Those books display the splendid achievements of the Chinese wisdom.

Languages can be divided into seven dialects: the north dialect, Wu Dialect, Xiang (Hunan) Dialect, Gan (Jiangxi) Dialect, Kakka Dialect and Min (Fujian) Dialect and Yue (Guangdong) Dialect. Now the north dialect is advocated.
