Lisu people mainly come to residence in Bijiang, Fugong, Gongshan, Lushui of northwest Yunnan Province.


They can be divided into White Lisu, Black Lisu and Flowery Lisu for the main colors of their costume. The Flowery Lisus' dress are bright and beautiful. Women embroider chiffon on the edge of on jackets and long shirts They also wrap flowery headband, wear big copper or silver earrings. A man likes to have short shirt, the trousers of him long to his knees. Some of men wrap headband.

The houses' constructure can be divided into wood construction and bamboo-wood ones. The shape of the former is like a long box, the later can be called 'thousand of feet standing on the ground' for the basement is built by twenties or thirties stakes.

The lisu nationality is a kind and friendly nationality. No matter who has difficulty in villages, the whole villages will come to assistant. There is not a beggar in their society. Corn, yam and broomcorn are the staple-food. Taro is their favorite food and every family plants it. Cooking rice and vegetable is a habitual way to cook. When eating, the housewife distributes everyone averagely a big timber-bowl. Wine is enjoyed among men and women. The way of making and drinking is full of character. On every harvest, families will begin to brew with the material of corn, broomcorn and barnyard grass. After brewing, an iron boiler is placed on open fire and pour warmer water in to stir when the host think the liquid well, he will bail it out and leach the product into a polish cup, and at last hold it in both hands before the guests. This kind of watery wine tastes sweet and pure with faint scent flying around. They will sing in antiphonal style and dance to add funs to the refreshing wine. And especially, this is the most valued etiquette.

New Rice Festival, Bathing Collection and Spring Festival

Lage Festival is held on every lunar calendar January 5 in Dehong Jingpo Autonomous County. People get to sing and dance. They also compete fire gun skill and arrow shooting.
