Maonan ethnic minority nationality distributes in Huangjiang, Hedi, Nandan, Yishan, Du'an areas in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Area. they engage in farming, and bamboo production weaving, woodwork, iron forge take a certain proportion. Their costume is nearly that of Hans' and Zhuangs', but they don't wear white clothes which only for a beravement. A house is two-layers, and the upper is for living, the first floor is for livestock. They are hospitable, when meet they call Huaji, which means brothers. A sweet orange and red potato are for a guest when he enters. No matter how old the guest is, he will on the same table with the father feature. Unless the same festival with those of Hans', Temple Festival is their tradition festival, which is held on traditional Chinese agenda May 5. on that festival, they will mask themselves to hold a ceremony which is called Zhuiniu. When red potato is harvest, they will choose the best to dry in sunlight on days and shower its by drew at nights. In twenty or thirty days, the natural produced red potato will be kept for another twenty days. After that period, the red potato is taken out to be braised, the sweet production of which is fond by Maoan people. Maoan food is special, the way to cook it is when bamboo shoot is cooked well, the mixture ofcorn powder, bean, pumpkin and ginger is put in; and then mix some flowers of pumpkin, spice, food oil and salt. Bean-curd-round is fine in a marriage food, it is made by meat, shrimp, and peanut. Their bury system is special for buying water from a river and blood the tomb with chicken's to pray for happiness.
