Mulam nationality distributes in Luocheng County and nearby in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Area.Their costumes, architecture and conventions are similar to those of Han's.The staple-food is rice, corn, buckwheat, red potato and taro.They worship many gods. Yifan (transliteration) is a ceremonious festival to the Mulam people. The Yifan is held every three years, which is to celebrate harvest and pray for the people and the livestock. Before liberation, the whole village killed pigs and sheep, sang and playacted, wielded prop lions and dragons. They often played several days and nights. In the whole year, except October and November, almost were there festivals in every month. On the kalends day, it was buying new water. On the eighth day of Chinese traditional calendar April, it was the birthday of cattle; cattle would not be allowed to work in the field. On the fifteenth day of Chinese traditional calendar August, it was the youth festival, and the whole villagers, no matter men or women, young or old, they got together to sing in antiphonal style. The youth took the chance to get in love. On the second day of Chinese traditional calendar June, they would hold a strange festival 'Eating Bugs'. They collect before the temple of eating bugs to sing and dance as could as they can. They also ate a meal that made of locust, butterfly chrysalides, loach and other insects. 'Zoupo' ( the Youth Festival) is a funny form for young people to build love. On every August 15. boys and girls walk on to the green woods to sing a meet. When a pair of young people have a mind to each other, they can date next time. If a pair of lovers are willing to get married, a boy will present the girl mandarin duck shoes or the same year cake, while the girl give handkerchief or cloth shoes as keepsake. A new couple will live together until festivals and busy seasons. Only when the wife is pregnant, she can live with her husband. SinJingg folk songs and playing colorful tone drama are popular. the occasions of sinJingg folk songs are zoupo and happy days. According to the tradition, when young people meet in suburb, they can invite each other to sing antiphonally. Resistance is impolite. The words of songs are created by improvisatorially. |
