Have you ever heard the famous music - Naxi ancient music? And have you heard the matrilineal kingdom? It surely exists in one branch of the Naxi nationality.

They are artistic minority. They are skill at sinJingg and dancing. The famous song 'Baisha Xiyue' is outstanding. Their buildings, carving and painting are quite accomplishments blended with styles of the Naxis', the Zang and the Han.

The matrilineal kingdom is under control of women, who reign politics, economy and culture. Mother goes out for work, and father, who is called 'uncle' and obeys rules of women's, stays at home to take care of children and president housework.

A man's costume is the same as the Han. In some area, what they dress is as the same as Tibets.

A woman keeps traditional Shuits. In Lijiang Area, a woman wears long wide Chinese unlined jacket with big sleeves, a waistcoat covered outside. She wears a piece of apron of multi-wrinkles. A amice of sheepskin is covered, on which embroidered seven stars, sun and moon to represent labour.

In Nianglang area, a woman likes to have long multi-wrinkles shirt, wrap a piece of green piece of cloth around head and have a short jacket on. Big earrings are necessary. In Lijiang Town, it is tile construction for a house. The principal room is higher than the wing-rooms. In Nianglang and Yanyuan area, the houses are most 'Mu Leng House', the walls of which are made of logs or quadrate wood; and the roofs are covered with wood block.

Among naxis' people, there are a lots of taboo.

In Lijiang area, divine trees can not be cut down. A pregnant woman is not allowed to enter a temple , attends a funeral and go into a bridal chamber. A stranger is prohibited to watch their offering sacrifice to gods, ancestors and fighting gods. When offer sacrifice to heaven, anyone can not touch the offerings.

SinJingg inside house is forbidden in Zhongdian County. Farm cattle, draft horses and a cock of crowing can not be killed. A dog's fresh is not allowed to eat. Talking and smiling between a father-in-law and his daughter-in-law, brother-in-law and his younger brother's wife, and neither does a mother-in-law with her son-in-law.

In Ninglang area, a visitor will be refused to enter when a baby in three days and seven days.

Corn, wheat, paddy, barley and beans are the staple-food. Wine, heave tea are popular drink.

In Lugu Lake area, A Zhu (friends) marriage is among Mosuo people. Nether a man nor a woman get married. A grown boy lives with his girl at night and goes back until tomorrow. By this way, marriage is not built up, but it is called A Zhu. They build A Zhu relation by working, fairs and other doings. A Zhu is not confined ages, generation and nations. The children will live with their mother and they don't know who is the father.

The traditional festivals are Farming Tools Collection in January, Dragon King Festival on Marh3, Mules and Horses Collection in June. Sacrifice to Adopting Mothers and Daughters Festival in Ninglang area on June 25 is for young people to find lovers.
Besides, there are some other festivals as other nations, such as the Spring Festival, Sweeping-tomb Day and Firebrand Festival and so on.

They believe in Dongba, which comes from a kind of religion of Tibet. It is an oriJingal wizard. They worship many gods. Mountain, wind, water and fire are also with spirits. On occasions of sickness, marriage, funeral, festivals, a Dongba will be invited to read lection. A Dongba has no certain temples, who are common farmers.

The architecture, carving and painting combine the traditional style of Han, Tibet and Naxi. Da Bao Ji Palace, Da Ding Pavilion and Wu Feng Tower were built in Ming Dynasty. The fresco on the walls are treasures.

Women Kingdom-Mosuo

At the bank of the beautiful Lugu Lake, there is a mysterious society of Mosuo. They keep their long last unique culture that women are the dominators. The girls of Mosuo's select a parter to spend the night, but they will not choose a husband or a lover, for there is not any form of marriage. The family only admitt female relationships.A child is fed up by his or her mother, grandmother, and so on.
