In north of China, on the beautiful lake of Qinghai Lake and the south of grand Qilian Mountains, the flowing Huanshui River and Datong River breed the simple and laborious Tu ethnic minority nationality.


The colorful costume are character. A young man's hat is with rolled brims, the back turns up and the former turns forward, which is called 'hawk's mouth pecks. An old man's hat is decorated with a piece of blue cloth in shape of a horn, which can be rolled up or put down, a red and green peak set on the top.
The costume of women's are colorful and complicated. A woman if who has get married can be distinguished from her hairstyle. An unmarried girl has a long plait tied a piece of trumpet shell, and covered with an embroidered headband; besides, her calf tangled red 'Zhanwan'. The different color of plait and Zhanwan can tell a woman if she has got married or not.

The tus' people dwell on a village in a clan. Designs chisel in doors. They like to smooth walls by white mud.

They don't have livestock meats with round hoofs. Women is prohibited to enter a temple. A hat can not be taken down before a senior. A short jacket is not allowed.

They staple-food are highland barley, wheat and potato; they also like to drink milk tea and have butter mixed cooked flour. They can cook many pattern flour food and rice. There are also some special food, a kind of round cake called 'Tahuri' is used to serve the visits.and also a bride to go back her own family. 'Halihai' is special for rare visitor.

SinJingg and dancing accompany a marriage ceremony. They enjoy the happy time all night, spraying water is for fun. On next day, the bride will change her hairstyle and dressed up. She sits on white felt and be carried cycle around Mani pole three times; after then, she ride a horse to her mother-in-law's family. The new couple's room is forbidden to enter to play on that night.

The bury system can be divided into fire bury, earth bury and self-buried. The fire bury is to burn the dead body before pick the ashes three days after' and only removed to his ancestors' in next year. The earth bury is to put the dead body in a coffin and lamas are invited to read lection; after then it is buried in the tomb. The self-buried is to put the dead body in a valley to let it absorbed by nature.

The traditional festival is the same as the Hans', such as the Spring Festival and some others. Their own festivals are watching 'Shehuo' on traditional Chinese calendar January fifteen at Weiyuan Town; on February 2, they hold dancing gods collection on Huzhu Chegou; on March 3, gods dancing collection is held at Yaoma Village; on June 11, it is Danma collection. On every festival, the Tu people will wear attires, interchanJingg merchandise on fairs and competing horse skill, wrestling, sinJingg and play Chinese Wushu.

Tu ethnic minority nationality is a sinJingg and dancing nationality. They pass on the folk culture by oral, and most of which are narration poetry. Huar is unique, the words of which is bright and enchanting. The Tus' people can compete Huar everywhere.
