Zang ethnic minority nationality distributes in Tibet Autonomous Area, Qinghai Province, Gansu Province, Yunnan Province and Sichuan Province. Mountains are stretching with rich water resources and many treasure materials.


They like to keep hairs and wear ornaments; so is a cap. They wear silk or fabric short jacket in upper body with fat long gown, a tie tied in the right. In some farming areas, women have long gown with no sleeves. The herdsmen or herdswomen only have sheepskin-long gown on. In farming areas women normally tie a magnificent apron, which is called 'Bang Dan' in Tibet language. They often have their right arms in nude to act freely. The long gown can be a quilt.

They built stone houses in farming, and set tent in pasturing areas. Thick national character flows out with simple construction and smooth roof. A building with a yard is also built towards the sun. The upper floors are for dwelling and the underlayer is for storeroom and living stock. A tent is woven by yak feather, which is black; but it is cold in summer and warm in winter, besides,it is convenient for removing.

The architecture art is in special manner, the storied buildings are layer upon layer with pageantry the Buddha Temple is famous for its grand aspect and style, which is a great contribution to our China Nation.

They are used to have forenames but surname, and difference of sex can be seen from which. In a family, men are the dominators, and monogamy is the main shape for a family.

They carry on celestial burial, also called bird-burial, which means to send a body to graveyard in mountains; the body is dismembered and the born of which is smashed, all is send to feed vultures. When a reborn great Living Buddha is dead, a solemn ceremony will be held. The body will be managed with fragrant and medicine; the body is kept inside fragrant mud or Buddha tower. Kotow

After harvest in autumn, farmers and herds will go out to worship Buddha. Wine and tea

To be a guest in a Tibet family, you must respect their rules established by usage, otherwise you will be considered to be of discrimination to them.

The New Festival

The new festival in tibets' calendar is the grandest traditional festival. On the eve, most of the temples will hold 'Tiaoshen Hui', which means dance collection. The perform will stay a whole night. On the new year day, people visit each others with attires and go to temples for pray. On fifteenth, Buddha events will be held in temple, and ghee lights will be lighted in night.

Xuedun Festival

Xuedun means to eat acidophilus milk. When time is going, Xuedun Festival has developed into Tibet drama collection, so it is also called Tibet Drama Festival. It is celebrate on July 1 and last three or four days. On every this festival, the Tibet people will have all dolled up and bring food and drink to watch dramas and other entertainment in Lhasa.

They like to mix tea in their food. The staple food is mutton and beef. They take a wood bowl and a short knife with them when they have a meal. Normally, they don't eat too much in a meal, but have five or six time in a day. They like to drink highland barley. Production of milk is daily food.

They believe in Buddha. In their lives, they are affected on not catching livings. Image of Buddha is worshiped in a family. Most of them hang divinity-box, which is called 'Gewu', rocking-turn canister in hands of which can not be reverse. Utensils of Buddha and fire basins are forbidden to stride over.

Speak in an honored way to the respectable elders and guests.
Do not make noise when eating, and do not eat too full in mouth.
Pick meals do not over the current.

Sit in order and civility.
