FORD FOUNDATION

    Brief of Ford Foundation
The Ford Foundation is a private philanthropic institution dedicated to international peace and the advancement of human welfare. It is a resource for innovative people and institutions worldwide.
We pursue these goals mainly by granting funds to governmental or non-governmental institutions for research, training, capacity building, experimentation, and developmental efforts that give promise of producing significant advances in the fields in which we work. The Foundation also makes a few grants to individuals. Since our financial resources are modest in comparison to each society's needs, we focus on a limited number of strategies within our broad goals. The Foundation's work around the world is currently organized within three broad programs, each with a number of fields:
1. Asset Building and Community Development
2. Peace and Social Justice
3. Education, Media, Arts and Culture
Since its establishment the Foundation has been an independent non-profit organization and has provided over $11 billion in grants and loans. Grants have been made to more than 9,000 institutions and organizations worldwide. As of December 2001, the Foundation's endowment totaled around $11 billion while the annual program budget worldwide was approximately $470 million.
