| There are 9 native Taiwanese tribes. The Taiya is the second largest. Before a Taiya woman get married, she must paint her face for the beauty. A man's painted face is the symbol of his courage, and his family as well. The tradition was forbidden during the period of the Japanese colonization. There are only 40 people still alive, whose face were painted at that time. |
