Foot-Bound Woman
Li Nan(China)

Hanjia village is an underdeveloped village in the city of Binzhou,, Shandong Province. Legend has it that the village's name is derived from General Han Xin of the Han Dynasty, some 2,200 years ago. Zhao Jiying, now over a hundred years old, had her feet bound as a young girl. She was raised in the village.
Foot-binding originated some 1,400 years ago. It was a cruel custom, but "lotus feet" were regarded as beautiful for centuries. Happily, foot-binding died out after the fall of the feudalism in China.
