"Morosy Cristianos" and "Santiago" Festival

  1. Ancient priests danced for hours in honor of their gods. This tradition is still popular in Mayan communities in Guatemala. Dancers are always men who can afford to hire the ornate costumes.  
   
  5. The Santiago festivity is in a little town called Chichicastenango, a 2 hour trip by car from the city of Guatemala, at this festival they have many different traditions, one is called Pascual avaj. They sacrifice animals, bring food and flowers, burn fancy herbs and there is a sacred stone. They spend hours talking with the stone, drinking rum and praying for their families and their farms.
