"Laozi Hao", have turned to perish. The trail of the past refulgence
and prosperity still can be viewed from the old experiencing front gates,
fragmentary scripts, collapsed sculptures and broken hitching posts, where
flow the breath of familiar Beijing accent and the air of satisfying lives.

| 11กข"Bao Cheng" Pawn Shop. Jewelry shop, old-style private shop, grain shop and pawn shop were called "Four-Large Industries" in old Beijing, so the pawnshop was very important at that time. Pawnshop obtained profits depending on exploiting common people mercilessly. The counter in pawnshop was very high and pawnbroker was called the assessor. The pawnbroker lowered the price of pawn intentionally. Pawn tickets were negotiating securities as receipts. In order to avoid falsely claiming, only connoisseur of pawn could understand the pawn ticket. The pawnshop was transformed into commission shop during the period of joint state-private ownership. |
