| This is a story about tenderness in the Indian
city of Ahmadabad in the state of Gujarat; a few organizations maintain
hospices for cows. Here, the old, sick and dying animals are cared for and
fed until their natural death, The reason for this is religious-the Jain religion (of which there are many followers in Gujarat) forbids the killing of any living being, hence also cows. Mahatma Ghandi was a Jain from the area; his birthplace is about 35 km from where these images were taken. |
