Several thousands year back the Indian higher caste disallowed the Dalits and untouchables (Lower caste) to even mouth the name of Lord Rama. In the beginning of this century, a rebellion took place in Chhatisgarh region. The Dalits of Raigarh, Bilaspur and Raipur said enough was enough and decided to get “Rama” tattooed all over bodies. The people of Ramnami sect organized their anniversary at the Shivarinarayan near the bank of holy river Mahnadi. For three days, the congregation of Ramnais continues at the bank of river Mahnadi and air riverbeds with the name of Lord Rama. Ramnamis are simple poor people. They are purely vegetarian. Meat and liquor is strictly prohibited in the sect.
