Kunming is the capital of Yunnan Province, with 2000 years of history. In 1328, the fifteenth year of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty, led by Mu Ying, the city of Kunming was built with bricks as the walls of the city, which was nearly 10 meters high, over 4 kilometers long, with six gates of the city and the entrance buildings. There were more than 150 streets and over 400 lanes in the end of Qing Dynasty after several times repairs during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the late 1990s, with the accelerating improvement of the city, besides special cultural relics, large area of the old streets were dismantled, with some featured folk residential courtyards lost at the same time. The streets and lanes in the project have disappeared now.
