ships floating on the river road joined with cords, and then is located with
anchors in the water or on the bank, and laid with wooden boards on the boats
for people and horses to walk on. In the eighth century, float bridges were
widely used. Later, such bridges were set up on not only small rivers but also

meet at three rivers and six banks in Ganzhou (ancient name: Qiancheng) of
Jiangxi to be the headwater of
Gan
River of about five
hundred kilometers. Once there were three float bridges, only one of which,
Dong River Float Bridge 500 hundred meters long, still exists today. This float
bridge dates back to the year of Qiandao, South Song
Dynasty (1165-1173), using totally 100 boats joined with the thin bamboo strips
and cords. Although
Dong

function of transportation, it still is an important cultural relic with
appreciation value as well as a leisure location for citizens.
