Hanging isolated on the sea to the south of Taiwai,
Lan
Island
is a pure, simple, beautiful and mysterious island, honoured by artists as Ruby on the
Pacific Ocean. The
Tao people have to fight with rough sea, bad weather and the up and down of low
air pressure for survival.
After the Tao people work together to help building a canoe,
there will be a fiesta ceremony on the first day when the ship get on the
water. Many people gather together to attend the ceremony, are given pork and
taro, then make an joint effort to carry the ship to the sea shore, and finally
row the boat for a week before returning the boat to the seashore, thus praying
for big amount of fishing as well as returning safe.
